With our last article we discussed how Learning Links/Furnish works so now we would like to discuss how Learning Links/Families works and what this project has to offer.

Learning Links/Families works with local families who are facing challenges in their everyday lives and are looking for help and guidance. As an early intervention programme, we can offer practical and emotional support and work closely with families to come up with situation-specific action plans that will enable them to overcome these difficulties and have a positive impact on their lives going forward.

We offer workshops in different locations around Portsmouth using the NVR (non violent resistance) technique and it has proven beneficial to many of the parents and children involved, and after the course has finished we offer a drop in service which allows the parents to continue receiving support, and to connect with other parents going through similar issues or/and milestones.

This course is designed to improve relationships between parent/child(ren) by the responses given, it is about letting go of what you are unable to control and finding healthy ways to manage emotions, and impulses etc (the course will teach you more) or if you would simply like a quick chat with a member of the families team about the NVR technique please do give us a call and we will be able to walk it through with you step by step.

The course is suitable for a variety of different needs including those with an Autism spectrum condition as we have an individual with Asperger’s Syndrome come in and share his experiences and what it’s like to live with the condition as an adult, and what the child is going through during certain situations which they may not always be able to explain verbally. It provides the parents with an insight into their child’s mind, and the parents that have been to these sessions so far have really benefited from the course. To learn more about Autism and Asperger’s please do click here but regarding the parenting course if you are experiencing difficulty at home it may be worth contacting us to see if we can help you. You won’t know unless you try!
